Broad Arrow's "Campaign for Europe" continues. After ousting RM Sotheby's at Villa Erba in May, this time it's focusing on the Zoute sale in Belgium on October 11th. While the Italian sale wasn't a major one for RM Sotheby's, Broad Arrow has this time taken a dig at Bonhams, because for the London auction house, the Belgian sale is the most important of the year, often surpassing even the California sales in August. If Broad Arrow hurt Bonhams, was it also bad for organizing an event on the North Sea? Not at all. The numbers say the sale was a success: of the 75 cars it brought to the seaside resort, 58 changed owners, for a success rate of 77.33%. The numbers were also impressive in terms of value, with sales exceeding €26,206,900, approximately 70% of the €37,485,000 estimated, with an average price worthy of a top-tier auction: €451,843.
But there's something else worth knowing: Bonhams was also there, and Broad Arrow generated more revenue. We'll talk about it next Sunday.
Topping the list of successes was a beautiful colt from Maranello (are you surprised?). In this case, it was a stunning 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 in a magnificent Verde Pino color scheme with an Arancio interior. Only six were made in this color, and it's no surprise that this example was owned by the likes of Sherman Wolf and Orin Smith. After a few failed sales, the estimate of €2.8-3.2 million was finally hammered down in the middle for €3,015,625.
