The feeling is like all of a sudden an icy breeze brutally shuts a door in your face. This is the emotion felt by those who knew Sergio, Andrea and Paolo Pininfarina. Indeed, all three of them ruthlessly departed from the myth of their lives as refined visionaries of style and taste, at a time when the world would still need them. Now Paolo at 65, in 2008 his brother Andrea at 51 and between them the great Sergio, their father, in 2012. For all of them too soon.

Why do we remember them together? For a simple reason: After the pioneering beginnings of Pinin Farina in the 1930s, it was Sergio's turn and then Andrea's and finally Paolo's time to write the great history of Pininfarina. A history made with typical Savoy elegance, with grace and professionalism always put before everything and with the ability to know how to choose designers capable of respecting what has been and always will be the Pininfarina style.

"Ferrari gave us full confidence" Sergio said "and I, for this reason, knowing him as a man who did not like innovation too much, I always wanted the cars made for him not to mark breakpoints in style. Innovations but never revolutions, that was what he valued." When we consider how many Ferraris with Pininfarina's signature are in the garages of the world's greatest collectors, we can certainly say that Sergio knew very well not only what Ferrari wanted but also what the Cavallino's customers wanted.

Now, with Paolo's passing, this extraordinary world appears sadly emptied. We remember how he enthusiastically presented the Roarington Sportiva simulator "I wanted it to be inspired by a model my father and grandfather were proud of, the Cisitalia honoring Italian design at MOMA in New York," he said that day. Paolo firmly believed in his Pininfarina until the end; he also left a memory for Pinin, the Battista. This was his grandfather's real first name from which he derived the diminutive Pinin.

The thoughts of all of us at Roarington are for Paolo’s wife Ilaria and Sergio's wife, Giorgia, who have lost their loved ones in just a few years. That leaves Lorenza, the daughter, and the families of Paolo and Sergio to whom we extended our sincere sympathies. Their name, their work and their talent will remain forever.
Roarington extends heartfelt condolences to the Pininfarina family in this time of sorrow.
