For David MacNeil, the automobile is not merely a passion: it is the meeting point of enterprise, motorsport, and culture. Founder and CEO of WeatherTech, a company specialising in high-end automotive accessories, he has built a global brand deeply intertwined with the world of racing. It is precisely through WeatherTech that he has become title sponsor of the IMSA SportsCar Championship and naming partner of the legendary Laguna Seca circuit, one of the most iconic on the international stage. This same philosophy is mirrored in the family collection, officially ranked seventh in The Key’s Top 100, which can be consulted here (Top 100 Collectors), where genuine icons stand out — among them the Ferrari 250 GTO and the Lamborghini Miura P400 SV, absolute masterpieces of the Sixties. The MacNeil collection is kept across several private locations, often inside airport hangars and facilities purpose-built for collectible cars — a solution typical of the most important American collectors. The cars span every major marque and every era of motoring history: rather than focusing on a single brand, the collection brings together the most exclusive and most representative models.
David MacNeil has played a decisive role in supporting the career of his son Cooper, guiding his growth all the way to the highest levels of international endurance racing. Cooper MacNeil has secured class wins in GTD PRO at the 24 Hours of Daytona and in GTLM at the 12 Hours of Sebring, alongside notable results at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he has earned three GT-class podiums — establishing himself as one of the most competitive American drivers of his generation. A particularly symbolic moment in the family’s racing history is the joint entry of David and Cooper at the 2016 24 Hours of Daytona, aboard a Porsche 911 GT3 R run by WeatherTech Racing: an episode that did not yield a top finish, yet remains emblematic for its human and familial value, far beyond any competitive measure, in one of the toughest endurance races in the world.
What makes this story all the more singular is the involvement of his daughter Devon MacNeil, an increasingly active presence on the great international concours circuit. At the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance she earned a major recognition, claiming the First in Class award in the Postwar Sports category with a Lamborghini Miura P400 SV Bertone Coupé Speciale — one of the most iconic models in Lamborghini’s entire production.
In the MacNeils’ case, collecting is never divorced from motorsport and the sheer pleasure of driving: these cars are lived, raced, and shown on the most prestigious stages.
