The I.C.E. 2024: Snow on Ice. But passion always wins.

A Concours d'Elegance on the frozen lake of the famous town of St. Moritz combined with an exhibition of the competing cars on the frozen track was a recipe for great success. But the snow beat the ice: More than one metre fell during the night before the event was supposed to take place and the threat of further snowfall forced the local authorities to withdraw permission for the event for safety reasons.

The cars, all of which were already present in St. Moritz along with their owners, gave the organisers a reason not to lose heart: As a response, the organizers moved the Concours d'Elegance inside the spacious garage directly in front of the lake, which was transformed into a kind of parterre where the jury could judge the cars one by one and declare the winners of the five individual classes.

The I.C.E. Elegance Competition moved from the frozen lake rendered inaccessible by heavy snowfall to the garage located right in front.

The winners stole the show from numerous other cars that would have deserved prizes. In particular, the lack of the dynamic exhibition penalised some models that would have had, seen in action, an extra touch of emotion and appreciation. But, as we all know, at concours there are always more disappointed people than happy people, that's the law!

As per tradition, among the five class winners, one got the double crown, that of Best of Show: Which one?

The car that won Best of Show was the favourite from the start of the event: The 1938 Delage D8-120S from the Pearl Collection of Fritz Burkard. It was also already awarded the title of Best of the Best in 2022.

The 1938 Delage D8-120S from the Pearl Collection of Fritz Burkard was elected Best of Show at The I.C.E. 2024. Two years ago, this car won the title of Best of the Best 2022.

Now all that remains is to start keeping an eye on the weather forecast for 2025 to bring back, to the magnificence of the location and the cars in addition to the joy of the participants, an event that has already become a landmark in the world of collecting. After all, in order to create the myth, even nature can make its contribution. However, once is enough!
