Visiting MAUTO – The National Automobile Museum of Turin – means embarking on a journey through the creativity and genius of the industry and design of the automobile. Recognised as one of humanity’s most ground-breaking inventions, the car has profoundly redefined our perception of space and time and has emerged as the ultimate symbol of freedom that carries dreams, arouses emotions and inspires wonder.

1 The tour through MAUTO's collection of cars is an experience not to be missed

Commemorating its 90th anniversary since its inauguration on 19th July 1933, MAUTO proudly presents the “Una storia al futuro” exhibition. Open until 8th October, it revisits the museum’s evolution, illuminating the visionary spirit of the pivotal figures who orchestrated its creation. From the 15th to 23rd July, Turin’s iconic locations will host an array of events encompassing talks, screenings, workshops, educational laboratories, and exhibitions. The festivities will peak on Wednesday, 19th July, with the “Millemiglia delle idee”, an idea marathon encompassing discussions, testimonials, and forecasts about the past, present, and future of automobiles, and on the museum as a place of memory and a laboratory of experimentation.

The day will also include a vintage car parade, led by the most precious vehicles from the MAUTO collection, in collaboration with ACI Torino and Veteran Car Club. The procession will weave through city centre streets, culminating in a concert by the soloists of the Regio Ensemble at the headquarters in Corso Unità d’Italia.

3 The cars, which set the pace of the narrative, are accompanied by unpublished documents and photographic materials preserved in the Museum's Documentation Center

Ten of the most important cars from the museum’s collection will be on view in iconic Turin locations, displayed in the courtyards or halls of historic buildings or in picturesque open spaces favoured by tourists, and accompanied by a rich calendar of events that will animate the city in a choral tribute to the car and its storied legacy. On display will be the 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, 1987 Phoenix II Solare, 1909 Itala 35/45 HP “Palombella”, 1907 Pope Waverley Model 36, 1898 Benz Motor Velocipede, 1971 Fiat 130 coupe, 1928 Fiat 520, 1928 Itala Model 61, and 1962 Austin Mini Cooper S.

However, a distinct honour is reserved for the 1935 Fiat 508 “Balilla” which, on Monday, 17th July, will roar back to life on Lingotto’s Pista 500, the very track where more than 113,000 examples were originally manufactured from 1932 to 1937.

A great celebration designed to be shared by the whole city, and an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the vital role cars have had in improving our way of life.
