The first BMW Series 6, version E24, is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced by BMW in all of its history. Its graceful lines that were aggressive in all the right places were crafted by the French designer Paul Bracq, lured away from Mercedes-Benz where he had designed the Pagoda at the helm of its design studio during the 70s. The series of cars designed by Bracq, Series 3 E21 (1975-1983), Series 5 E28 (1981-1988), Series 7 E23 (1977-1987) are widely regarded as the cars that allowed BMW to make the definitive transition to a premium brand.
The 6 Series E24 (1976-1989) is one of the most symbolic models, especially when equipped with the 6-cylinder, 3.5-litre M engine, or rather tuned by BMW Motorsport. Originally mounted on the BMW M1, from 1987 this engine that produced almost 300 horsepower was also installed on the 6 Series. It was the first time, excluding to the very special M1, that the letter M was applied to a BMW, something that to this day denotes the manufacturer’s most coveted models. Only 5,855 were produced, making it even more unique and exclusive.
The front area is characterized by the 4 circular lights inserted into the grille, by the double kidney grille and by the forward slanting front called “shark nose”
Very usable, comfortable, still very fast, and fun to drive, these are perfect Youngtimers, and because of their rarity, are always welcome at many vintage car gatherings. Their value is slowly but continuously rising, but we are still talking about affordable figures. An example of an M6 in superb condition, well maintained, in the fascinating colour combination of Black with a light grey leather interior, with a certified history and only 29,000 miles (46,500 kilometres) on the clock, in the American version, therefore slightly less powerful, was recently sold for $67,200, including commissions, by Gooding & Co, at the Amelia Island auction against an estimate of $70-90K. The car was offered without reserve.
The task of designing the new car was entrusted to two teams: one was led by Giugiaro, while the other team was created within the design studio of the Bavarian manufacturer, directed at the time by Paul Bracq, whose incisive and elegant lines prevailed
The car was offered for sale after 20 years of sole ownership, with the correct Michelin TRX tires on BBS rims and original car radio, complete with all the original booklets. Excellent performance and value for money, with the additional advantage that BMW has recently activated the BMW Classic Parts Shop program, with over 60,000 spare parts available, thus allowing it to be used without unnecessary apprehension.
The longitudinally mounted front engine is a road-legal evolution of the one originally mounted on the M1 and is equipped with a catalyst
