Leaving the starting platform in Brescia at 4:17 a.m. on May 1, 1955, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, which would become known as the Gullwing, driven by John Cooper Fitch and Kurt Gessl, achieved an extraordinary result when, after 11 and a half hours of uninterrupted driving, it crossed the finish line in Brescia, propelling the new Stuttgart GT to first place in its class. The recently created Gran Turismo category was the most admired by the public because it was dedicated to sports cars also suitable for everyday use. That great success, which was also a marque-wide success with three Gullwings taking the top three places, didn't receive the fanfare it deserved. The all-time record, averaging over 157 km/h, set by the Sport 300 SLR driven by Stirling Moss, and the second-place finish by its sister car driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, filled the pages of the newspapers, crowding out the spectacular, winning debut of the SL.

Scrolling through the rankings, the true German dominance in this edition of the great road race is evident. A dominance that Mercedes is celebrating today by creating, together with Roarington, a numbered series of seven simulators designed by Pininfarina and dubbed the 300 SL Legacy Edition, in the authentic period color and complete with the number 417 on the body, the same as the winning car back in 1955. This very special edition also features the same fabric as the original seats and the famous 300 SL steering wheel, adapted to the new reality. And that's not all: the technical department that develops Roarington's digital world, in collaboration with Mercedes Classic, has transferred the model's (virtual) driving characteristics and road behavior to the driving experience, based on period parameters for a true Digital Twin. The 300 SL Legacy Edition Simulator allows you to drive, with extraordinary realism, on over 30 legendary circuits or on road routes such as the Bernina Pass climb, or even compete in the official time trials of the 1000 Miglia Digital Experience. And that's not all: you can also test your skills on the ice track on Lake St. Moritz used for the Concorso d'Eleganza The I.C.E.
