Steyr is an Austrian car brand that was founded in 1864 by Josef Werndl. The company first manufactured firearms, but eventually started manufacturing automobiles in the early 1900s. The company became well known for its range of small, lightweight cars. By the 1930s, the company was producing cars such as the Steyr 50, which had an air-cooled engine and a four-speed gearbox. The company also produced a range of luxury cars, including the Steyr Type XX and the Steyr Type S.
In 1934, the company merged with Austro-Daimler-Puch, and production of cars stopped. After World War II, Steyr resumed production of cars, but the company only lasted until 1951, when it stopped producing cars for good. Today, Steyr is better known for its range of trucks and agricultural machinery. The company also produces military vehicles, such as the Steyr Puch Haflinger and the Steyr Pinzgauer.
