The company traces it origins in 1920 which they started as a machine tools manufacturer before they switched to manufacturing vehicles in 1931. The company has produced a number of different vehicles throughout its long history which includes kei cars, hatchbacks, sedans, sports cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, commercial vehicles, and concept cars

History

Mazda is a Japanese automaker known for producing sporty and innovative cars. Here is a brief history of the company:

  • 1920s: The company that would become Mazda was founded in 1920 as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. in Hiroshima, Japan. Initially, it produced cork products and then expanded to machine tools.

  • 1930s: The company started producing three-wheeled trucks and began work on a small passenger car.

  • 1960s: Mazda entered the international market with the introduction of the Mazda R360 Coupe, a small, affordable car with a rear-mounted engine. The company also developed its Wankel rotary engine technology, which became a hallmark of the brand.

  • 1970s: Mazda expanded its product lineup with the introduction of the RX-7, a sporty two-door coupe powered by a rotary engine. It also launched the Mazda 626, a mid-size sedan, and the B-Series pickup truck.

  • 1980s: Mazda continued to expand globally, opening its first manufacturing plant in the United States in 1987. It also introduced the Mazda MX-5 Miata, a two-seat convertible sports car that quickly became a classic.
