Company

Isotta Fraschini was an Italian luxury car manufacturer established in 1900. The company also produced trucks and trolleybuses as well as engines for aviation and marine use. There were attempts made to revive the company in the 1990s which led to the development of the Isotta Fraschini T8 in 1996.

History

Isotta Fraschini was founded in Milan, Italy, in 1900 by Cesare Isotta and brothers Vincenzo, Antonio, and Oreste Fraschini. The company initially produced high-quality, luxurious cars that were well-known for their advanced engineering and elegant styling.

One of the company's early successes was the production of the Tipo 8, a car that was introduced in 1919 and quickly gained a reputation for being one of the most advanced and luxurious cars of its time. The Tipo 8 was powered by a powerful eight-cylinder engine and featured cutting-edge features such as four-wheel brakes and a four-speed transmission.

During the 1920s and 1930s, Isotta Fraschini continued to produce high-quality luxury cars, many of which were purchased by wealthy and influential individuals, including royalty and heads of state. The company also expanded into the production of trucks and engines for marine and aviation use, which helped to diversify its product line.

However, the Great Depression and the onset of World War II led to a decline in demand for luxury cars, and Isotta Fraschini struggled to stay afloat. After the war, the company continued to produce cars, but the market for luxury vehicles had changed, and Isotta Fraschini was unable to regain its former prominence.

In 1955, Isotta Fraschini merged with engine manufacturer Breda Motori, and the new company was renamed F.A. Isotta Fraschini e Motori Breda. The company continued to produce engines for marine and aviation use, but the production of cars ceased. The company changed hands several times over the years and was eventually dissolved in the 1990s. Despite its relatively short lifespan, Isotta Fraschini remains a revered and iconic brand among car enthusiasts and collectors.
