Callaway Cars is a specialty engineering and manufacturing company based in Old Lyme, Connecticut, United States. Founded in 1977 by Reeves Callaway, the company has a long history of modifying and enhancing Chevrolet vehicles, particularly the Corvette.
Callaway's reputation for producing some of the most sophisticated and advanced Corvette-based automobiles began to grow in the 1980s. In 1988, the company unveiled the Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette, which is still considered to be one of the most powerful street-legal Corvettes ever built.
The Sledgehammer was powered by a modified LT5 engine, which was capable of producing 898 horsepower. With this powerplant, the Sledgehammer was able to reach a top speed of 254.76 miles per hour at the Transportation Research Center in Ohio, becoming the world's fastest street-legal car at the time.
After the success of the Sledgehammer, Callaway continued to produce high-performance Corvettes, including the Callaway C12, the Callaway C16, and the Callaway SC757. These vehicles were known for their advanced engineering, precise craftsmanship, and exceptional performance.
In addition to building high-performance cars, Callaway also offers a range of performance parts and accessories for Chevrolet vehicles, as well as custom engineering and design services. Today, the company continues to be a leader in the performance car industry, and remains committed to pushing the limits of automotive engineering and design.
