Company

The H.H. Buffum Co. of Abington, Massachusetts, was an American automobile manufacturer that produced the Buffum from 1901 until 1907. The company was also known for its line of powered launches. The Buffum was a luxury car that boasted a 20-horsepower engine and a top speed of 30 miles per hour. It was marketed as a high-end vehicle and was popular among wealthy buyers. Despite its initial success, the Buffum was eventually overtaken by larger competitors, and the H.H. Buffum Co. ceased production of automobiles in 1907.

History

The Buffums produced from 1901 to 1904 were equipped with 4-cylinder engines, but in 1904, the H.H. Buffum Co. introduced the Model G Greyhound, a racing model powered by two horizontal 4-cylinder engines that were coupled together to create a flat-eight cylinder engine, making it the first 8-cylinder car for sale in the United States. Then, in 1906, another eight-cylinder car was introduced, this time with a V8 engine. Despite their innovative engine designs, the Buffum automobiles were known for their luxury and comfort, and they gained popularity among wealthy buyers. In addition to automobiles, the H.H. Buffum Co. also produced powered launches.
