It was formed as a reorganization of the Hoffman Automobile Company, with Edward Shurmer taking over as president. The company's first model was the Royal Tourist, a five-passenger touring car that was introduced in 1904. It was equipped with a 16 horsepower water-cooled straight-twin engine and a three-speed sliding transmission. The Royal Motor Car Company competed with other luxury car makers of the era, such as Peerless. The company ceased production in 1911, and its factory was taken over by General Motors.
