Italcorsa was a car brand founded in 1951 by Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi. The brand was initially founded to produce race cars for the company's home-grown racing team. The first Italcorsa car was the Italcorsa 500, a single-seater race car based on a Fiat 500 chassis, with a De Dion suspension and a special two-cylinder engine. The cars were successful on the track, winning the Italian Formula Junior Championship in 1955 and 1956. Italcorsa also produced a number of sports cars featuring engines sourced from other manufacturers including Fiat, Ferrari and Porsche. The cars were often modified to improve performance and reliability, and some featured bodies designed by well-known Italian coachbuilders.
