Saleen Automotive, Inc. was founded in 1983 by Steve Saleen, a former race car driver, in order to design and produce high-performance sports cars. In the early years, Saleen modified existing Ford Mustangs with performance upgrades and distinctive styling, creating a loyal fan base among car enthusiasts.
In 1994, Saleen began producing complete vehicles in-house, starting with the Saleen S351 Mustang. In 2000, Saleen introduced its flagship model, the Saleen S7, which was entirely designed and built by Saleen and featured a mid-engine design in a high-performance sports car package.
Over the years, Saleen has produced various other models, including the S281, S302, and Saleen Sportruck, among others. In addition to vehicle production, Saleen also produces a variety of automotive parts and accessories for both Saleen vehicles and other high-performance cars.
In 2013, Saleen became a publicly traded company through a reverse merger and is currently listed on the OTC Bulletin Board. Steve Saleen still controls and majority owns the company.
Saleen has also formed a partnership with Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technology to produce and distribute vehicles in China, but the venture has been marred by financial impropriety. Despite these challenges, Saleen remains a respected name in the high-performance automotive industry.
