History

The Owen Motor Car Company was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1910 by Ralph Owen. The Owen was a luxury automobile that featured left-hand steering, a central gear change, and was placed on a lowered chassis with 42-inch tires. The touring car sold for $3,200, while the limousine cost $4,800. The company was marketed through R. M. Owen & Company, owned by Ralph's brother Raymond. Reo Motor Car purchased the Owen Motor Car Company after completing 35 cars, and the factory was sold to the Krit Motor Car Company. In 1912, Ralph Owen began work on a new car that would become the Owen Magnetic.
