Officine Meccaniche (OM) was formed in 1899 in Milan, Italy as a result of the merger between Grondona Comi & C and Miani Silvestri & C. The company initially manufactured railway rolling stock and began producing cars in 1918, using the plant of the former Brixia-Zust after acquiring the Zust car company. OM produced a number of successful car models, including the Tipo 665 'Superba' which won the first Mille Miglia race in 1927. In 1938, Fiat Group acquired OM and passenger car production ceased in the following year. In the post-war era, OM focused on commercial vehicle and train part manufacturing, producing the successful Leoncino light truck in 1950. OM was merged into Fiat Group in 1968 and eventually absorbed into IVECO in 1975. The OM brand disappeared from the truck and bus markets, but still exists today as an independent forklift manufacturer.
