The Oakland Motor Car Company was an American car manufacturer from Pontiac, Michigan. It was bought by General Motors in 1909 and made affordable cars until 1931 when it was replaced by the Pontiac brand.

History

The Oakland Motor Company was founded in Pontiac, Michigan by Edward Murphy and Alanson Brush, using a design created by Brush for a vertical two-cylinder engine with a planetary transmission. The company was named after Oakland County, Michigan, and the first Oakland vehicle was introduced in 1908 with five body styles. In the first year of production, 1908, the company produced 278 vehicles.
