Humber Limited was a British company that made bicycles, motorcycles, and cars. It was incorporated in 1887 and named after Thomas Humber's business. The motor division became more important than the cycle division, and the cycle trademarks were sold in 1932. The Rootes brothers acquired a controlling interest in 1928 and made Humber the holding company for vehicle manufacturing members of their Rootes Group. However, under-capitalization and the inability to build a new car led to Chrysler buying the company in 1967. Today, Humber is a dormant brand for automobiles and cycles.
