Company

Glico-Siata was a joint venture between the Italian car manufacturer Siata and the Japanese company Ezaki Glico, which was known for producing sweets and snacks. The joint venture was established in 1951, with the goal of producing small sports cars and microcars for the Japanese market. Despite its short lifespan, Glico-Siata remains an interesting and unique footnote in the history of both Italian and Japanese automotive manufacturing.

History

Glico-Siata produced a range of cars, many of which were based on Siata designs but modified to meet Japanese regulations and market demands. These included the Glico-Siata 208S, which was based on the Siata Daina and powered by a 750cc engine, and the Glico-Siata 300BC, which was based on the Siata 300BC and featured a 300cc two-stroke engine. Glico-Siata was relatively successful in the Japanese market, with its cars appealing to buyers who wanted something sporty and stylish but also compact and fuel-efficient. However, the joint venture was dissolved in the early 1960s, and Glico-Siata ceased production shortly thereafter. Despite its relatively short lifespan, Glico-Siata remains an interesting footnote in the history of both Italian and Japanese automotive manufacturing.
