The General Motors Company (GM) is a well-known American multinational automobile manufacturing company headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, USA. It is recognized as the largest automaker in the United States and held the top spot in the world for 77 years before being surpassed by Toyota in 2008. GM operates manufacturing plants in eight countries and has four main automobile brands - Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac.
Apart from its automobile business, GM owns several other companies, including BrightDrop, a delivery vehicle manufacturer, a defense vehicle division that produces military vehicles for the US government and military, OnStar, which provides vehicle safety, security, and information services, ACDelco, an auto parts company, and a financial lending service. GM also holds a majority stake in Cruise LLC, a self-driving cars enterprise.
