Company

The DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) was founded by John DeLorean in 1975 with the intention of producing a sports car that would be revolutionary in both design and engineering. The company's only model, the DeLorean DMC-12, was designed by Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and featured distinctive gull-wing doors and a stainless steel body.

History

The DeLorean Motor Company was founded in 1975 by John DeLorean and produced only one model, the stainless steel DeLorean sports car with gull-wing doors. The company had a brief and turbulent history, going bankrupt in 1982. The DeLorean became famous as the time machine in the Back to the Future film trilogy. In 1995, a mechanic named Stephen Wynne founded a new DeLorean Motor Company in Texas and acquired the remaining parts inventory and trademark.
