Company

The Daimler Company Limited was founded in London by H. J. Lawson in 1896. The company acquired the right to use the Daimler name from Gottlieb Daimler and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft of Cannstatt, Germany. Initially, the company faced financial difficulties, but after a reorganization in 1904, it was able to bounce back. In 1910, the Daimler Motor Company was purchased by the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA), which also made cars under its own name before the Second World War. Daimler was awarded a Royal Warrant to provide cars to the British monarch in 1902. However, it lost this privilege in the 1950s after being supplanted by Rolls-Royce.

History

Daimler Company Limited was a British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in 1896, known for its high-quality cars and engineering innovations. The company was purchased by Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) in 1910, and then by Jaguar Cars in 1960. Daimler cars were used by the British monarch from 1902 until being replaced by Rolls-Royce in the 1950s. The company used alternative technology, including the Knight engine, the worm gear final drive, and the fluid flywheel. Daimler was merged with Jaguar Cars into British Motor Corporation in 1966 and later became an upscale trim level for Jaguar cars. Ford bought Jaguar Cars in 1990 and stopped using the Daimler marque in 2009. The rights to the Daimler car brand were transferred to the newly formed Jaguar Land Rover Limited in 2013.
