Company

Gruppo Bertone was an Italian design and coachbuilding company that specialized in car styling and manufacturing. The company designed and styled cars for many different manufacturers, including Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, BMW, Citroën, Ferrari, FIAT, Iso, Lancia, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, and Volvo. Bertone was also responsible for the design of two later models of the Lambretta motorscooter. The company was known for its distinctive styling and the strong family resemblance of its cars, even when badged by different manufacturers. While Bertone was once a car manufacturer, it later focused on design and coachbuilding, and eventually went bankrupt in 2014.

History

Gruppo Bertone was an Italian industrial design company that specialized in car styling, coachbuilding, and manufacturing. The company was founded in 1912 by Giovanni Bertone in Grugliasco, Italy. After World War II, Nuccio Bertone took over the company and divided it into two units: Carrozzeria for manufacturing and Stile Bertone for styling. The company designed cars for several manufacturers, including Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, and Lancia. However, the company faced financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy in 2014. The Bertone name was then acquired by AKKA Technologies, which later sold it to Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci in 2020. In 2022, the Ricci brothers revived the Bertone brand as a coachbuilder of limited-edition ultra high-end sports cars. The first in a series of limited edition vehicles, the GB110, was presented in December 2022.
