Gooding: fireworks at Amelia Island

10 March 20223 min read11 images

The Gooding Auction in Florida exceeded expectations, with $66.5 million in sales and 91 out of 99 cars sold. The top seller was a 1937 Talbot-Lago T150C SS Teardrop Coupé, which fetched $13.4 million, setting a new record for a French car. The auction also saw two Chevrolet Corvettes from the 60s sell for record-breaking prices. The late Rudy Mancinas' collection of BMWs and Porsche 911s sold well, with many lots exceeding their estimates. However, Ferrari sales were slightly underwhelming, with a 1991 F40 and a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB selling for less than expected.

There was a lot of expectation for the Gooding Auction, what with it being the first since Pebble Beach 2021 and also because the experts managed to bring a mouth-watering selection to Florida: almost a quarter of the cars had a minimum estimate in excess of a million dollars.

Just like being behind the wheel: everything you need to know to fully understand the situation

With 99 cars on offer and 91 sold (91.92%), it’s fair to say that they reached their goal but in reality, they went much further than that: the $66,534,480 (€61,252,305) in takings exceed the previous record from an auction at Amelia Island by 10%.
