You Dreamed It. We Built It. How the BMW M3 Touring Dream Became Reality at the Nürburgring
How an April Fool's joke became the BMW M3 Touring 24H – a community-born racing estate that finished fifth overall at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

If there is a recent case that deserves to be studied in a university course on communication and marketing, it is that of the BMW M3 Touring. Because this is not merely the story of an estate car that became a racing car, but of a brand that knew how to listen to its own community and turn a collective desire into a project capable of reaching the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.
It all begins with what was supposed to be a simple April Fool’s joke: BMW M publishes an image of a racing M3 Touring, a model that enthusiasts had been asking for over the years without ever truly being heard. The reaction, however, exceeds every expectation – thousands of comments and shares demonstrate that this car is not merely a fantasy of the most devoted fans, but a concrete demand. And it is precisely that enthusiasm that convinces the M division to develop the project in great secrecy, drawing on the experience accumulated over the years with the M3 GT3 Coupé. The April Fool's joke becomes reality also thanks to collector Rainer Bonnetsmüller, who decides to back the initiative financially.
