I will share a secret with you: this year, I would not mind changing my car. The everyday one has started to show its age. Then I looked at the price lists for new cars, and a doubt crept in — in the United Kingdom the average price is £29,875. And that doubt only deepened when I saw what was on offer at the two English auctions held on 18th March and 21–22nd March.

The first was at Kelsham Hall, a manor house on the outskirts of Nottingham, which H&H transformed into a setting for the sale of 120 cars — 36 of them without reserve — with a total estimated value of £2,945,000. By the end of the day, 74 sales had been concluded, with a handful more sealed after the auction closed, bringing the total to £2,183,268. The average price was £29,503 — perfectly aligned with the budget we had imagined.
