Historics, Iconic and the Heart of the Great English Auctions
Two airfields, 100 miles apart, one extraordinary day — Britain's auction culture laid bare across 370 lots.

On 16th May, Historics at Farnborough and Iconic at Sywell ran simultaneously, barely 100 miles apart. You could even have attended both in a small Piper, hopping from one airfield to the other! But there was no real need, since the two sales were aimed at quite different audiences.
Historics had more cars than Iconic (193 lots against 177) but, despite that, its estimate was considerably lower: £5,398,000 against £8,768,000.
By the end of the evening, it was Iconic — despite having fewer no-reserve cars (4% against 12%) — that came away with the better result: 112 sales at 63.28%, while Historics closed at 115 lots sold, equal to 59.59% of the offered.
