Broad Arrow claims Rhode Island from Bonhams – 56 lots sold, a century-old Stutz at $1.875m, and a Ferrari that stunned.

Broad Arrow continues to expand its reach and has "taken" Rhode Island from Bonhams, during the Audrain Concours that until last year had been the British firm’s territory.

In the interest of fairness, I will not draw comparisons here but will simply cite the figures for this edition: 65 cars offered, of which 48 were without reserve (almost three-quarters). The success that followed was hard to dispute: 86.15% sold by lot, with 56 cars finding new owners. With so many cars carrying no reserve, value takes on an even greater significance – because, as is well known, no-reserve lots tend to achieve lower prices on average. The turnover of $8,317,040 did not confirm that assumption; the pre-sale estimate had in fact been considerably higher, at $12,775,000. The average price of $149,519 confirmed, as in the Bonhams editions before it, that this is an auction with a strong following and, thanks to its strategic position between New York and Boston, still carries considerable potential.
