Anyone who thinks the world of Roarington is purely virtual is mistaken: in Turin, at MAUTO – the Museo Italiano dell’Automobile – on Monday 12 October, an event took place that made clear how the real and the virtual can be happily complementary. That afternoon, before an international audience, one of the many highlights was a contest between determined members of AIDA – Associazione Italiana Donne Automotive.

Without a moment’s hesitation, AIDA Club president and co-founder Linda Villano and a group of members took each other on in a race at the Imola circuit, at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. Imola in Turin? Of course – the Pininfarina and Zagato simulators in the room, always available during opening hours at the MAUTO Roarington Experience Space, with the Emilian circuit faithfully reproduced so that racing was possible. None of them had ever driven that car on that circuit, and none had ever tried a classic simulator, complete with manual gearbox, clutch, and the realistic effects produced by the car’s motion.
